The Top 5 nutrients that are severely lacking when you are depressed

Anyone with depressed feelings should be evaluated for nutritional deficiencies. Why? Because it is probably the number one cause of depression and nearly every ailment known to man.

Depression is not the lack of Prozac….. just sayin.

Here are the top 5 nutrients that have been found to be in serious deficit in patients that have been diagnosed with depression:

Vitamins Word Cloud

MAGNESIUM – Magnesium is responsible for many conditions, the least of which is depression.

FOLATE – Folate is in the B Vitamin family. Folate helps with the synthesis and metabolism of amino acids. These amino acids are used in the production of feel good neurotransmitters  like SamE.

VITAMIN D – Technically what we call vitamin D is actually a hormone our body produces when exposed to the sun in moderate amounts.

VITAMIN B6 – Vitamin B6 helps with the conversion of tryptophan to serotonin.

VITAMIN C – Vitamin C deficiency has been associated with Scurvy. But the beginning symptoms of scurvy are depression. 32% of psychiatric patients have been shown to be deficient in Vitamin C

VITAMIN B12 has been linked to depression and to obesity.

Of course there are other nutrients that are vital to overall brain (mental) health. These would be in some cases iron, Omega 3/6 fats, biotin, copper, potassium. The point is, before one just jumps on the “ANTI-DEPRESSANT” band wagon, get checked for nutrient deficiencies. Get those balanced and see how you feel.
