Psychobiotics: How to treat mental illness through the stomach.

I’m sure you have heard of Antibiotics and Probiotics, by the term Psychobiotics may be new to you as well.

Psychobiotics:

Often you will hear that “mental health” patients also have gut issues. But the evidence is mounting that they’ve got it backward; Gut issues patients also have mental health issues. Makes sense when you think about it.

According to Dr. Kelly Brogran: It is therefore compelling to consider the power of reconnecting to the natural world through our food; communicating through our guts to our brains, that nutrients are plentiful, our bodies are safe, and that our inflammatory systems can be put at ease. It is under these circumstances that the infinite complexity of the endocrine, immune, and gastrointestinal systems can play out, unhindered in support of mental health and wellness.

The bottom line is this…. remember our tummies and our brains are intimately connected via a 2-way highway called the Vagus nerve. What goes in, travels around and ultimately affects our brain, which affects our mood, our thoughts, our feelings, our actions, and even beliefs.  It’s incredibly easy for the balance in our belly to get out of whack. And when this happens, there is a cascading effect. And it’s not pretty.

The good news is, using high quality, a bioavailable probiotic is a safe and easy thing to add to or replace conventional treatment plans of expensive, and unsafe medications that do not get to the root cause anyway.

There are many different products on the market. The only one that I would recommend is  Essential Formulas Dr.Ohhira’s Probiotics Original Formula, 60 capsules. Dr. Ohira is an award-winning microbiologist. His story is actually quite interesting. But nonetheless, it’s the best product on the market that I know of, that delivers the appropriate strains, in the right amount, and in a way that stomach will not destroy them.

If mental illness is something you or someone you know or love has to deal with, I would highly recommend getting the gut in optimal health and see the vast improvements you will see and feel.

To your health!
