Most of us don’t think to draw a clear line between mind (mood and behavior) and body and how they are interconnected and affected by one another.
Dr. Russell Blaylock is a retired Neurosurgeon and visiting Professor of Biology. He also lectures and writes books, newsletters, does interviews and more.
In his lecture on Nutrition and Behavior he goes into great detail about the effects of food and the brain. To me, it was more than just fascinating, it was a major eye opener.
One of the many things that stood out to me was on the topic of food allergies, and how the symptoms can mimic or mental illness such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
Here is a list of Food Allergy symptoms he gave in his lecture:
Lethargy, stupor, disorientation, paranoia, delusions, hallucinations, agitation, rage, panic attacks, criminal behavior, and seizures.
He also talked about the most common food allergens and they are milk, wheat, corn, coffee, eggs, potatoes, peanuts, and soy.
Don’t some of these symptoms sound a lot like what we can and would consider a “mental illness”? I sure think they do.
Again, what causes a “brain break” can be complicated or it can be simple. But the point is, there is an answer and it usually starts with what you are eating.
P.S. – Please be sure to pass this along.
